Epithelial-cell-intrinsic IKK-[beta] expression regulates intestinal immune homeostasis
Article Abstract:
The Trichuris muris infection model was employed to investigate the role of intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) in regulating CD[4.sup.+] T-cell-mediated immunity and inflammation in the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract. The results indicate that the balance of I[kappa]B kinase (IKK)-[beta]-dependent gene expression in the intestinal epithelium is crucial in intestinal immune homeostasis by promoting mucosal immunity and limiting chronic inflammation.

The protein kinase PKR is required for macrophage apoptosis after activation of toll-like receptor 4
Article Abstract:
The anthrax bacterium selectively induces apoptosis of activated macrophages through its lethal toxin, which prevents activation of the anti-apoptotic p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase. The macrophage apoptosis by three different bacterial pathogens depends on activation of TLR4 is demonstrated.

I(sub k)B kinase-alpha acts in the epidermis to control skeletal and craniofacial morphogenesis
Article Abstract:
The major site of Ikk-alpha action on basal keratinocyte of the epidermis exhibited by Ikka mice is examined. The human Ikka transgene driven by the basal keratinocyte-specific promoter of the cytokeratin was used for testing this hypothesis.
